Esthetician’s are just like the rest of us…with the exception of their glowing, glass-like visage and superior knowledge of the skin. Much has been made about skincare routines in recent years, and as we age, finding one that works is important for keeping healthy, happy, and clear. Recently, we interviewed local esthetician Kaila Dinius of Skin Magician on her everyday skincare routine. As someone who’s been in the industry for 15 years, it’s safe to say she knows a thing or two about skincare. Read on to find out more about her must-have products and inside secrets for perfect, glowing skin.

Morning

Cleanse – Each morning I start with a double cleanse. It’s important to wash off my nighttime products and any oil buildup that might have occurred, and begin the day with a fresh, clean face. Usually I start with a foaming cleanser and finish with an exfoliant. I love my Smoothing Exfoliating Scrub because it has a little coconut oil in it, which leaves me with the perfect amount of hydration for the day!

Serum – Vitamin C serum is a great addition to any morning routine as it’s one of the most research-backed ingredients on the market. As we age, Vitamin C levels in the skin start to diminish leaving skin looking or feeling dull and uneven. Incorporating a Vitamin C product, like Skin Magician C Serum, into your morning routine will help protect your skin from free radical damage and environmental stressors. It also helps keep skin bright and even, two things my clients are always looking to achieve!

Sunscreen – I cannot express how important sunscreen is to any and every skincare routine. Whether you’re a woman or a man, 15 years old or 60 years old, spend copious amount of time in the sun or barely any, sunscreen should be in every routine. I use  my Daily Protection Mineral Sunscreen in the tinted version because it’s an amazing multi-purpose product. It provides hydration, SPF 40 sun protection, natural coverage, and primes my skin. I also love the EltaMD sunscreen – it’s great for all skin types!

To finish my morning look, I dust on a little Jane Iredale Pressed Powder, and play up my lashes and brows with the RevitaLash Cosmetics Hi-Def Brow Pencil, Hi-Def Brow Gel and Double-Ended Volume Set! The gel sets my brows in place literally all day, and the primer in the mascara is amazing! It helps make any eye color pop.

Night

Oil Cleanse – Oil cleansers are magic – they somehow melt all the dirt, makeup and oil off your face without needing to use a makeup remover or wipe. I always start my evening routine with my Antioxidant Oil Cleanser to remove makeup, and finish with a second cleanse that’s targeted to whatever my skin may be experiencing. The second cleanse ensures that you’re starting your nighttime routine with a fresh face and allows the rest of your products to work even harder.

Tone – Every night I use the ZO Skin Health Oil Control Pads. They contain Salicylic Acid, which helps exfoliate skin and control acne.

Retinol – If I had to recommend one product besides sunscreen, it would be Retinol! Retinol is a do-it-all ingredient – it helps with acne, brightness, aging skin and more. When using, remember it’s best to start slowly – think 1-2 times a week - and allow your skin to adjust before adding in another night. This stuff is strong, but it works!

Eye Cream – The eye area is extremely delicate and must be treated as such. I always recommend staying away from heavy creams as they can lead to milia, and guide my clients to look for one with hydrating ingredients.
