Creating a good skincare routine is important but knowing the right order to apply your products is just as important – if not more! If products aren’t layered correctly, your skincare routine may be a waste of time and your hard-earned money. The easy rule of thumb is that products should be applied thinnest to thickest, but it’s also important to know which ingredients should come first. Below, we’ll break down the best way to apply your skincare and why.
Always, always, always cleanse your face, especially before you go to bed every night. In the morning, it’s okay to splash with water, but we always recommend a double cleanse before bed (a cleansing balm to remove makeup followed by a cream or gel cleanser targeted to your skin type). We always follow any cleanse with our Micellar Water Lash Wash for any missed makeup, dirt, oil or sebum. It gives a perfect canvas for the rest of your skincare routine, including lash and brow serums!
Toners are not a necessary step, but if you like using them, apply directly after you wash your face, while it’s still moist. Make sure to read ingredients carefully though, as many toners can be harsh and cause irritation.
Many people often ask us where RevitaLash® Advanced and RevitaBrow® Advanced fit into a skin routine. The answer is always on dry, clean lashes and brows. Give your lashes and brows a few minutes to dry after washing and toning your face, then apply RevitaLash® Advanced and RevitaBrow® Advanced as directed. Once dry (a minute or two), you’re good to follow with the rest of your skincare or makeup routine.
Serums are highly concentrated, vitamin-dense treatments that are used to address specific concerns such as pigmentation, texture or fine lines and wrinkles. Serums should be as close to the skin as possible so they can deliver ingredients more efficiently. Pick one to three serums that treat your concerns and give them each a few minutes to fully soak in before applying the next one. Not sure where to start? Antioxidant serums are good for all skin types and help fight free radicals while repairing skin!
Since skin around the eyes is extra-thin and starts to show signs of aging first, it’s a good idea to incorporate an eye cream or gel into your routine starting in your 20’s. Make sure to apply twice a day, and don’t forget to use SPF during the day! This helps maintain the health and thickness of the skin around the eyes, leading to a more refreshed look. We love our AquaBlur® Eye Gel & Primer, a do-it-all product that moisturizes, soothes, blurs and fortifies both lashes and brows.
Lock in all that goodness with a moisturizer! This is one of the most universal skincare steps, as moisture is the key to healthy, hydrated skin. Experts suggest applying a moisturizer while skin is still damp from the previous steps so that it locks in the hydration. We like to use a “pressing” motion following application to further encourage ingredient penetration.
During the day sunscreen should always be the last step in your routine (no need to apply at night). SPF is always a must, even if it’s cloudy outside or you don’t plan on leaving the house all day. Pesky UV rays can still cause sun damage through the window, and is one of the main causes of wrinkles, texture and hyper-pigmentation.

If you’ve ever stepped out of the salon feeling like the “after” shot in a makeover montage, then you know how a new hairstyle or color can boost your confidence. But salon services can also leave your hair dry, damaged, or compromised—especially if you neglect to follow your stylist’s aftercare instructions.
