Before You Use Any Cosmetic Near Your Eyes, Make Sure of Three Things

March 24, 2021

It’s no secret that the eye area is extremely sensitive and should always be treated as such! When it comes to cosmetics, it’s important to look for high-end, science led products that ensure the utmost safety of your most treasured assets. We can’t stress this enough - no cosmetic is worth putting your vision at risk!

Luckily, cosmetic manufacturers and companies are held to high standards for safety and testing, standards that are even higher for those used near the eyes. Yet prestige products always come with people wanting to create cheap knock-offs, and the risk of an adverse reaction is a real concern.

Making Your Eyes Beautiful, While Keeping Them Safe

Of course, we all look at labels to check the ingredients and ensure they live up to our personal standards. But when it comes to your eyes, you have to 'look' for more than ingredients – things like hypoallergenic, non-irritating and dermatologist reviewed are just as important, if not more!

Here are the big three safety concerns you should consider before you try any cosmetic around your eyes:

    1. Physician/Ophthalmologist Formulated
The most important feature of any near-the-eye cosmetic. Ophthalmologists are dedicated to keeping your eyes healthy and disease-free. It's what they're trained for. When a product is formulated by an Ophthalmologist – and certainly not by a cosmetic chemist – you know his or her first concern is your eye health. Full stop.
    2. Dermatologist Reviewed
Safe for your eyes is critical, but so is safe for your skin if you're going to avoid allergic reactions to a product's constituents. Dermatologist tested is an extra level of 'insurance' for your skin. Without it, you should have doubts and be extra careful to test any product on a patch of skin before you apply it to your face.
    3. Clinically Tested
Does the formula you’re buying do what the advertising claims? Not just anecdotal evidence of results (“my sister swears by it”) but clinical trials, performed to the highest standard, across a broad range of skin types and women of all ages. Otherwise, all you have are a lot of big promises, with the potential to irritate your eyes, your skin, or worse.

Here’s the takeaway: Please be vigilant - cheap knock offs can put your vision at risk.

P.S.  RevitaLash® Advanced and RevitaBrow® Advanced are both Physician formulated, dermatologist reviewed, and clinically tested. Safety is in the brand's DNA and in every product we make.

P.P.S.  Here are some eye makeup safety tips from the American Academy of Ophthalmology:

  • Only use cosmetics that are designed for use around the eyes. ...
  • Throw away eye makeup after three months and get new products. ...
  • If you develop an eye infection, like pink eye, immediately toss all of your eye makeup and don't use eye makeup until the infection is gone.
  • If you notice an allergic reaction to makeup:
  1. Find out what the ingredients are so you can watch out for them in other products.
  2. Let your doctor know. Your doctor may know about products that are prone to causing reactions, and about gentler alternatives.
